Sermon on Colossians 3:23,24 CCRC, 13 February 2022 Rev. Thomas Bomhof Whatever You Do… Dear Friends of God, * Our passage this morning teaches us that no matter which career we pursue, our daily workplace is a place where we follow Jesus. Paul says, * Whatever you do. We are all busy doing something. Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Webster defines the word 'Zeal' as 1. Eagerness and ardent interest in pursuit of something. 2. Two synonyms are Fervor or Passion. In our text this evening the apostle Paul uses the word 'heartily'. Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men, So no matter what your task is, work hard. as the Lord's servant, not as man's, And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, Whatever your work is, do it gladly. Do it as you would do it unto the Lord and not for people. The apostle Paul said, "Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God" (Colossians 3:2-3). Again, this is not a suggestion but a commandment. The meaning is, "Direct your focus, or interests, on things above. Set your attention and concentration single-mindedly on the Colossians 2:16-23: True Human Potential: Colossians 3:1-11: Put on the New: Colossians 3:12-17: the first-born from the dead. Now that does not mean that he was the first one ever to be raised from the dead, because scripture records others who preceded him. But he is the One who is the heir, the Lord of all the new creation COLOSSIANS 3:23-24. Introduction: Colossians tells us that as believers we serve Christ. The word for serve is douleuo which means to yield obedience and in submission do service to another. We are to be in subjection to Christ's authority and to give Him more than lip service. Breaking the fetters of mediocrity we are to serve Christ xmPI.
